The rule for south facing outdoor living areas is that the minimum dimension of the outdoor living space must be 2m + 0.9h from the south facing wall. h is height of the wall. Where you have a two storey building and the upper level is set back by 2m do you still assume h is the total height of both levels or do you undertake the calculation for each seperately and then add them together? My inital interpretation is that it shoudl be the total height but then maybe there should be some way to take into account the set back of the supper level as that will allow mroe daylight admission to the outdoor living space than if it wasnt there. has anyone else dealt with this issue? What do you think?
